Some of my poems

To My Beloved

When I look into your eyes
I see magic in the skies;
I see magic in the skies so bright.
When I listen to you pray
I hear music all the day;
I hear music all the day and night.
When I hold you by my side
I feel light enough to glide;
I feel light enough to glide and soar.
When I feel your gentle touch
Life just seems to mean so much;
Life just seems to mean so much, much more.
You have taught me how to live,
To rejoice, accept, and give,
To rejoice, accept, and give my all.
You're my hope when life is bleak,
When I'm feeling tired and weak;
When I'm feeling tired and weak and small.
If I thanked you every day---
Proved my love in every way,
Proved my love in every way I knew---
It would not begin to show
Just how much I truly owe
Just how much I truly owe to you.
So I pray in Jesus' name
That I'll love you just the same,
That I'll love you just the same or more,
'Til I take my final breath
At my rendezvous with death;
At my rendezvous with death's dark door.

Ship of Dreams

In my youth, I built a ship, and filled it with my dreams;
It had ambition for its mast and courage for its beams.
It carried every noble wish and every heartfelt sigh;
I launched it with a prayer, and watched it sail into the sky.

Ship of dreams, where are you now?
I search the stars in vain.
Are you gone forevermore?
I long for you again.

Time has flown and cares have grown; distractions fill my day.
Life has had its twists and turns, and now I've lost my way.
Desperately, I lift my hands and reach towards the light,
But every glimmer flickers out and flees into the night.

Ship of dreams, where are you now?
I search the stars in vain.
Are you gone forevermore?
I long for you again.

Clouds of grief and doubt close in, and I can barely cope.
But I will not yield; I press ahead, and live each day in hope.
No matter where I'm headed now, no matter where I've been,
I know that if I dream new dreams, my ship may still come in.

Ship of dreams, where are you now?
I search the stars in vain.
Are you gone forevermore?
I long for you again.

Last Night

Winter forests, dark and deep,
Invade my dreams, invade my sleep.
Naked trees and gloomy skies
Come to haunt my restless eyes.

Night winds whistle, breathe and blow
Through the shadows, through the snow.
Crackling hail and sizzling sleet
Burn the air with icy heat.

Midnight strikes: the demons rise
With hungry mouths and hungry eyes.
They plunge inside, tear out my soul,
And suck it dry and eat it whole.

A new day dawns; my body wakes.
It rises, breathes, and laughs and shakes.
Inside there hangs a tree of bones
As white as death, as cold as stones.

Mister Clock

Tick, tock,
Mister Clock
Says one more hour to go.
How I hate
To sit and wait!
Why is time so slow?

Tick, tock,
Mister Clock
Says half an hour more.
I give a sigh
And wonder why
Life is such a bore.

Tick, tock,
Mister Clock
Says fifteen minutes shy.
What a drag!
My shoulders sag.
I could almost die!

Tick, tock,
Mister Clock
Says five more minutes now.
I watch and stare;
We're nearly there!
Sweat drips off my brow.

Tick, tock,
Mister Clock
Rings at the end of day.
I give a shout,
'Coz school is out---
Let's go out and play!

Mr. Bumper

Mr. Bumper washes his hair a hundred times a day.
Tuesday nights he hops thirty miles while knitting half a beret.
Mr. Bumper puts on his shoes before he puts on his socks.
Pictures hang on all of his walls, but hidden behind all his clocks.
Mr. Bumper sings in a choir---soprano, alto and bass.
After church he brushes his teeth with stunning beauty and grace.
Mr. Bumper walks on his hands unless it's starting to snow;
Then he'd rather bounce on his knees and order pizza to go.
