Tuesday, 6 April, 2004 About 5 years ago I had the following idea for a premise for a movie. Please let me know if the movie already exists. If you decide to write a screenplay and/or make a movie based on this premise, I ask only that you let me know if you heard it from me first. Remake of the classic film "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." A supposedly liberal couple finds out the hard way that their daughter is bisexual, when she brings home her new fiancee for dinner. [I should clarify that what I am talking about is NOT a film about coming out. It is not even a film in which the young bisexual is the main character. It is rather a film in which the main characters are the parents. The young bisexual has no "coming out" experience because her parents' training has caused her self-image to transition from straight to bisexual without blinking. Note, in particular, that I said "bisexual" and not "lesbian"; this is critical for the premise. It is rather less plausible that such parents would not already know long beforehand about the sexual orientation of a strictly lesbian daughter.] Update added Dec 2004: Apparently there is a remake currently being shot, starring Ashton Kutcher, Bernie Mac and Zoe Saldana. However, the theme is still race and not sexual orientation.
